Christmas Happenings in Estonia

Eleven years ago today Bob asked me to marry him!!

Well, tis the season for yummy food and gatherings and decorations.  Thought I would share some pictures from our service last night.  We had a Christmas buffet and it turned out really nice.  We were missing a couple of families but had a wonderful time.  It snowed all afternoon yesterday and it was as if we were driving in a snow globe.

These were some of the kids from last night at church.  ( They also happen to be my Sunday School kids – I just LOVE them to pieces! )  We were missing three faithful children – them and their parents were in a car accident on Saturday and thankfully, they were not harmed but their car was.  Pictured from back left to right and then front:   Elisa, Sonna, Sarah, Samuel, Emma, Eliise, Roselyn, Sophia and Ella.

Singing Christmas songs.

The older kids played Monopoly while the younger ones played with play dough.  Poor Samuel is the only big boy.

I snapped this picture of Sophie during the service.  She is such an angel face, if I do say so myself.  :)

Sarah Grace, my other sweet angel girl.

A few of us ladies after church.  I guess I should have worn red!

This group of ladies have been the biggest blessing to me personally.  We are all Americans except, Anyah, who works with the Salvation Army and her husband is American.  We meet every two weeks and it is a source of light while it can so dark here – dark in many ways.   We had a cookie exchange on this day and we also shared some homeschooling things and kids books and such.   We are in the middle of a Bible study called Experiencing God.   I look forward to every other Monday morning because of these ladies.

Homemade peanut butter cups!!   Thought I would throw in a recipe to this post.  I used butter instead of shortening and doubled the chocolate and used creamy instead of crunchy peanut butter.   These were SOOOO fun to make!   My son who does not like chocolate or peanut butter even liked these.   They are a hit!

  • 2 cups milk chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup crunchy peanut butter
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 2/3 cup graham cracker crumbs

Directions

  1. In 1-quart saucepan combine chocolate chips and shortening. Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, until melted and smooth (3 to 5 minutes).
  2. Loosen top paper cup from stack, but leave in stack for greater stability while being coated. With small paint brush, coat inside top cup evenly with about 1 teaspoon melted chocolate to about 1/8-inch thickness, bringing coating almost to top of cup, but not over edge. Repeat until 30 cups are coated; refrigerate cups.
  3. In 2-quart saucepan combine butter or margarine and peanut butter. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until melted (4 to 6 minutes). Stir in confectioners’ sugar and graham cracker crumbs. Press about 1/2 tablespoon filling into each chocolate cup.
  4. Spoon about 1/2 teaspoon melted chocolate on top of filling; spread to cover. Freeze until firm (about 2 hours) carefully peel off paper cups. Store refrigerated.

Merry Christmas from our home to yours.   I do want to add that to many of us, Christmas is a wonderful, happy time of year.  But, I want to also remember those who are having a hard time this Christmas.   I know of some who are celebrating this Christmas without their loved ones because they have passed from this life to the next.   For some this is the first Christmas without them and for others it has been many years but yet that gaping hole is still there.   I hurt for those of you who are grieving this day.    For some, Christmas time holds painful memories for whatever reason – all the joyful sounds and happenings of Christmas only brings back memories of sadness and pain.   I am so sorry!   I would challenge those reading this to be mindful of those around us;  you may have many presents wrapped for your children and the Christmas meal is all planned out and bought; the Christmas music is on 24/7 – but so many around us are hurting.   May I challenge us to share Christmas with someone this season?      God Bless!

Heather, You are so on target about people having a hard time at Christmas. You have such a sensitive heart and blessed me while the tears came. God is so good and I had another laugh yesterday while Marcia & Reta & I had lunch out. Marcia asked me to tell Reta about your piano recital. Sorry!!! You know how much I love you and Bob and your family. Love my new grandson, Philip. Love & prayers. Barb
